MULTIPLE WAYS TO MONITOR ATHLETES

Methods of Analysis

With the Apex System there is a simple layout to allow for ease of use and flexibility around the platform. The key methods of analysis are tabbed across the top of the software and each method is discussed in the following slides.

Individual Analysis

This allows for detailed analysis of one player from one session. See individual acceleration and deceleration activity, Heart Rate and speed curves etc.

Session

The quickest way to see a report on all players, or groups of players, after a practice.
You can have a report for the coaches within minutes of the session, on the specific metrics you want to see.

Squad Period

This allows you to see the average for each session in any given period. So you can see for 10 consecutive practices what the team average was in each practice.

Individual Period

This allows you to see an individual player over an extended period.

Primary APEX Metrics

Total Distance

Track how much ground your athlete covers in a match or practice. This figure can be displayed in meters, yards, kilometers or miles.

Speed

See the maximum speed achieved by each athlete. This can be displayed in meters per second, yards per second, miles per hour or kilometers per hour.

High Speed Running

Covering distance is one thing but HSR tells you how much ground they covered at high speed. This threshold can be defined by the user to meet the individual demands of the player. This metric can also be viewed as High Speed Running per min (HSR/min).

Accelerations

Apex provides the most comprehensive insight into the demands placed on athletes through accelerations. It not only allows you to see the max acceleration and the total number of accelerations, it details a breakdown of all accelerations based on time, peak acceleration, duration and distance covered per acceleration.

Decelerations

Apex also provides the most comprehensive insight into the demands placed on athletes through decelerations. It not only allows you to see the max deceleration and the total number of decelerations it details a breakdown of all decelerations based on time, peak deceleration, duration and distance covered per deceleration.

HMLD

(High Metabolic Load Distance) This is the total distance, in meters or yards, covered above a metabolic threshold (25.5w/kg). This metabolic threshold can be achieved through High Speed Running or Explosive activities such as Accelerations and Decelerations.

Heart Rate

When athletes wear a basic heart rate belt while wearing the Apex Pod, the HR data will be recorded and displayed in the Apex Software. HR metrics include max HR, avg HR, Time in HR Red Zone, HR Exertion. On top of this, Apex is the only platform to also incorporate Heart Rate Variability (HRV) into the system.

Sprints

See how many times your athletes get above a defined Sprint threshold. This threshold can be defined by the user based on the individual athletes’ max speed. It can display max speed achieved, duration and the distance covered in each sprint.

Collisions

Tackles, hits, falls and impacts all take their toll on each athlete. Apex can measure each and every collision and give an output, in G Force.  Collision Load is a unique value to represent a sum of all those collisions based on research, which looked into thousands of athletes’ data.

Fatigue Index

This is a unique measure of the stress that sessions and practices place on athletes. It is an individualized marker based on the intensity of the session and the resultant fatigue on the player. It allows the user to check the load on athletes over an extended period of time.

Step Balance

Using the 100hz tri-axial accelerometer we have developed a unique algorithm to analyze the average forces placed on both the left and right foot of each player. It allows for an invaluable insight into the balance and force displacement of players.

Dynamic Stress Load

(DSL) is a Apex metric that allows us track the external load placed on the player and is presented in the Apex software as a weighted score. It is a total of the weighted impacts that the player experiences during a session or game. Every player has different bio-mechanics, injury history and fatigue levels which all play a role in determining how a player deals with the external load.

APEX Live Streaming Software

Apex Live Streaming Software is the intuitive software package as part of the Apex system that allows you to monitor individual and team performance in real-time during as its happening, giving you the ability to make decisions based on objective data whether or not to increase or decrease training intensity.

Step Balance

Using the 100 Hz tri-axial accelerometer data we can determine the impacts experienced through the left and right feet of the players. This allows us to determine load distribution of the player. This is presented in pie chart format (See image) and is expressed as a percentage. Once a base line score is established the data can be invaluable in determining player readiness post-injury. For example, post-injury a player may still be protecting themselves and therefore not transmitting full power in ground force reaction. This may lead to discrepancies of up to 10-15% on either foot. Return to play protocols can be modified as a result.

Fingerprint Analysis

The Apex system has the ability to create finger prints for players’ based off certain drills or activities. This allows the user to track the changes in the fingerprint over time. If, for example, the finger print drill is a typical drill done with the team a number of times a month, the user can see how this changes over time, i.e. number of accelerations increasing or decreasing. This is also valuable as a return to play protocol which can be used as a reference point when deciding if a player is ready to return or not.

Tactical Analysis Features

The tactical analysis features within the software allow for all coaches to use the software and the Apex data to objectively look at player positioning, player movement from an aerial aspect, giving coaches a truly unique perspective when assessing players performance on the tactical side of the game, a perspective that cannot be captured through the use of camera orientated solutions.

Readiness To Train Application

The loading players experience can also be tracked using our subjective markers within the Apex System. We have a customizable Readiness To Train application which allows users to ask up to six questions of their players, all completely customizable. As well as this users can get rate of perceived exertion for a session and biomarkers such as osmolarity and saliva tests. The readiness to train app allows players to fill in their subjective information on a tablet which when connected to the cloud will automatically download into the system.

Sports Code Integration

Within the Apex software there is the ability to integrate sports code from third parties such as Opta Sports, Prozone as well as any other XML based sports code file.

This gives coaches the ability to see tactical and in-game events alongside physiological data to identify and attribute physical stresses on the body with a players activity or decision making during an important play. Joining Apex data with sports code data brings analysis to a whole new level.

How high was that players heart rate when he missed that pass?

With sports code integration within the Apex system, you can now match physiological output with key moments in training and games.

Athlete Load Management

Athlete load and performance can also be tracked using the Apex Systems thresholds feature. This allows you to set standard or expected measures for certain players for certain training days. Once you gather some data on your players you will know what to expect from certain sessions allowing you to compare actual performance with expected performance. Thresholds are managed through our traffic light system with red for example, flagging that a player has exceeded the set threshold.

Player & Drill Comparison

Bar Charts

The Bar Chart presentation style is the traditional comparison format within the Apex software and allows for straight forward comparison of players outputs on one metric at a time. The format of this within the software has a separate bar chart for each metric.

Radar Graphs

The innovative Radar Graph comparison feature allows coaches a different approach in comparing both players and drills looking at up to 8 metrics. This allows for much more comparison and analysis in one simple radar graph.
